Hopelink's Build a Kit Oct 16

Hopelink’s Build a Kit event October 16th
The City of Kirkland’s Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with Hopelink to Build-A-Kit event for Kirkland Hopelink clients. This event will provide free, 3-day emergency preparedness kits for Hopelink clients and allow them the opportunity to learn what goes into a kit, and why. Gordy and George volunteered to work at a kit station and fielded preparedness questions.

Special "Start Your Business Class" for Veterans.

The Kitsap Veterans Assistance Program has contracted with WashingtonCASH www.washingtoncash.org to provide training to 60 Kitsap County veterans. The first class is full with 24 veterans plus some of their significant others. The course is 2.5 hours, one day a week, for ten weeks.

Energy Awareness Month


Secretary Shinseki has announced a new Green Routine campaign to kick off Energy Awareness Month at the VA. The campaign is designed to increase the awareness among VA employees of their environmental impact as individuals and as members of the federal government. Emergency Education Benefit Payments


The Veterans Affairs Department said Friday it would begin issuing emergency checks of up to $3,000 to Iraq and Afghanistan veterans whose payments under the new GI Bill have been delayed.

Tens of thousand of veterans from the recent wars have been waiting for payments under the newly enacted Post 9/11 GI Bill, which was the largest expansion of education benefits since World War II.

Veterans can also apply online at http://www.va.gov/, starting Oct. 2.
